BB Edge Team

Stu Thompson - Edge Workshop National Manager

Stu is the Programme Director for BB Edge Workshops which are run in over 28 schools across the country and teach boys in small groups DIY skills and values that help their self esteem and confidence. The Edge Workshop coordinators typically work with a group of 6 boys each week for 2-3 hours over a school term and can have a dramatic impact on their behaviour and attitudes. The teachers and principals speak very highly of the program which assists their efforts to reach all students and improve outcomes.

Stu has worked for BB New Zealand for over 20 years and in that time contributed a massive effort to the movement. Stu was instrumental in developing the ICONZ program, curriculum and badges in addition to the development of the Edge Workshops in schools across the whole country. He has worked tirelessly to help boys become great men and has an enthusiasm un matched and well respected across the school network and BB. Stu is an avid outdoors man and has five wonderful children, and is a doting grandfather and supported by his lovely wife Karen.

Warwick Tomlinson - Workshop Facilitator - Otago

Warwick oversees the Edge Workshop in Dunedin, Mosgiel and Central Otago and contributes significant time and energy, not to mention driving significant distances in the South Island to drive the success of these programs. Warwick has a great relationship with the principals and staff in the various schools where the Edge Workshop operates and loves seeing the development of the boys as they learn new skills and develop confidence.

Warwick is the BB Development Manager for the South Island. While his history with BB only began in 2019, he has taken on a large area geographic area and also Captains BB 1st Mosgiel. In 2007 he completed a Bachelors in Ministry Theology (BMin) at Laidlaw College while working as an Intern at Opawa Baptist church and as a landscapers labourer. He has spent 26 years as a youth worker, both voluntarily and professionally. Warwick is a raging extrovert and loves being with people, especially working with teenagers. Warwick’s family include wife Rebecca and three wonderful children, Alyssa, Georgia and Jayden. If you are in the deep south, feel free to get in touch with him.

Glenn Tabor - Workshop Facilitator - Waikato

Glenn is the Edge Workshop Facilitator for Waikato. He moved to Cambridge from South Auckland in 2022. During his years in South Auckland Glenn worked for a community-based organisation PACT as a children’s worker in Primary schools in Papatoetoe, supporting and mentoring tamariki and whanau for over 20 years.

From 2022, Glenn has facilitated Edge workshops in 7 schools, including 2 in South Auckland.

He currently works in 4 schools in the Waikato region, including a local school in Cambridge, where he works part-time as a Children’s worker for Tamariki Tipu (24-7 Youthwork).

Glenn is married to Diane and has 2 adult children (Laura & James) and 2 grandchildren (Jude & Goldie) to his daughter and son in law Jesse.

Jenny Carter - Workshop Facilitator - Auckland

I’m a mum to two boys and a lively dog, living a life I love in beautiful New Zealand, which has been my home for over 30 years. I’m passionate about craft, sustainable living, and gardening, and I cherish spending time with family and friends. Originally from Sheffield, I still enjoy a good Yorkshire pudding and a splash of Henderson's Relish, but New Zealand’s stunning landscapes and vibrant community have truly captured my heart. My roots may be in the UK, with mountain Mam Tor, Derbyshire and the River Don, Sheffield close to my heritage, but my heart belongs to the Kiwi way of life.

Amos Gillett - Workshop Facilitator - Central Otago

Hi, I’m Amos Gillett, currently serving as a Workshop Facilitator for the in-schools Edge Programme. With a background in civil construction, building and construction, and engineering, I’ve accumulated extensive supervisory and leadership experience throughout my career.

In my role, I am passionate about guiding students and helping them develop practical skills and confidence. My diverse experience in various construction and engineering fields has equipped me with the knowledge and expertise to mentor and inspire the next generation.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring our country and its history and music. I am committed to making a positive impact through education and hands-on learning.

Sam Thompson - Lead Workshop Facilitator - Bay of Plenty

Sam Thompson currently lives in Tauranga. He is originally from Napier, the oldest son in a family of all boys, who are not afraid of anything in terms of danger. In actual fact; as young guy he smashed his leg ice skating in Sydney & broke his back snowboarding at Mt Ruapehu, so don't let him anywhere near frozen water. Miracles still happen; with Sam though, they are a regular occurrence. Some might say he just likes a VIP helicopter flight.

Sam attended local schools in Napier, He was involved in the BB ICONZ unit at Pirimai both as a boy and a junior leader for around seven years. After that he was recruited by the children's ministry at the Baptist Church to lead in the children's ministry and this is where he got passionate about leading youth.

After leaving school, he trained in construction engineering and as a heavy diesel mechanic. It was his calling to youth work, however, which tore him away from working on earth moving and heavy port traffic vehicles to work for BB as our second Lead Workshop Facilitator in the Bay of Plenty. It has to be said that Sam is a rugby league and Warriors fan, but the true love of his life is Emily & they were married in September 2025 in Tauranga.

Sam Beaumont - Workshop Facilitator - Christchurch

Murray Hunt - Workshop Facilitator - Waikato

Murray is a builder by trade and spent 21 years as a Police Officer in Hamilton and Cambridge. He has a long history of working with young people through Cambridge Baptist Church, including seven years as a youth group leader, and more than 30 years involved in rugby refereeing from junior through to senior level.

He also spent five years as a Sports Chaplain, including four years as a Regional Leader, and was named New Zealand Sports Chaplain of the Year in 2024. He joined the EDGE Workshop Programme at the beginning of 2026 and enjoys working alongside the boys, building wooden projects, sharing a few card tricks, having plenty of laughs, and creating a space where they feel heard, encouraged and valued.
