Term 1, 2006
{ January 14th, 2006 }
Well, another exciting year lies ahead of us, and with quite a few changes taking place in the Company Section. As you may have heard, our Captain, Ian Carson has left the leadership team, but will still be involved on a less formal basis in a supportive role. I have stepped in as leader of the Company Section, and the Company Captain’s role has been delegated amongst various officers throughout the company.
With this time of change, we are looking at changing a few things ourselves in the Company Section. To start with, our new leadership team. We are glad to say that we have retained most of last year’s personnel. Alan Dopson, Stuart Ingham, Gary Kenny, and myself will all be returning as officers in 2006. We welcome Tim Clark back into the Company Section after a time spent looking after the Team Section. Kevin Wharf, a long time friend of the Company and member of Lower Hutt Baptist Church has offered his services as Chaplain and spiritual mentor and will provide a link with the Church, as well as having a wealth of experience in Boys Brigade. We look forward to working with Kevin in the coming years.
We are also looking at changing the uniform. At this stage it will not be anything major or out of reason. We are changing the “whatever-goes” stance on the trousers to being dark coloured, navy or black trousers or shorts. This will be accompanied by black school shoes. Boys are to bring sports shoes and shorts to participate in Physical Training or Sports events. Although we will be lenient during this first term, we expect that by the start of Term 2 everyone will be wearing this slight change in uniform. Long term plans are to eventually change the shirt to a more dress style shirt to install some pride in coming to Boys Brigade in the uniform we wear. As officers, we will also be ‘upgrading’ to a more formal style of dress.
With all these changes in mind, we look to our programme for the first term, as well as some activities for the whole family outside of a Monday night.
Our first week back is on 13th February. We will be going to the Hutt Rec to play games, so please bring appropriate gear for running around in. The rest of the programme will be revealed on a week by week basis.
There is a BBQ fund raiser for the following Saturday, 18th February at Petone Warehouse. Please note this in your calendars now and begin to work out who in your family can be there and at what time during the day you can help out on the barbie. We will be working out a roster on our first night back, so please be prepared!
There is another BBQ planned for later on in the term, on the 18th of March. We will let you know details closer to the time.
There is a family picnic at Williams Park in Days Bay planned for Sunday 5th March in the afternoon. We will have canoes, boat rides, sports in the park and various other activities for all the family to enjoy.
Not only with the change in the company, but with the way technology is rapidly changing the world we live in, we are launching a new web site. It will contain information that you need to know about 10th Wellington as well as current news and programme for the coming week and the rest of the term. It has the events that we are planning for the rest of the year and also has a contacts page where you can email us directly any questions or queries. It will also provide opportunity for boys to help out and work on pages of their own in classes should the interest be there. Bookmark us now as we will be making the most out of the web site as we can in the near future.

We are also looking at starting up the company e-mailing list again. This was started a couple of years ago but never really took off. Working alongside the web site, the e-mailing list will send out any latest news about the company as well as the current weeks programme as a reminder. You can sign up for this now at the web site. We will be collecting email addresses at the beginning of the year as well so that everyone has a chance to get on it.
If there are any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any of the other officers, or email us directly at 10thwellington@gmail.com
We are all excited about the year to come. Enthusiasm cannot be replaced and fortunately we have a lot of it and we look to offer a challenging and rewarding programme for the Boys, and we might look at having a bit of fun along the way! We thank you for your continuing support through this year of change and on into the future of 10th Wellington.
On behalf of all the officers at 10th,
Al Ingham
